frequently asked questions

What is a Legal Document Assistant (LDA)?

A Legal Document Assistant (LDA) is a certified professional who specializes in preparing and filing legal documents without offering legal advice or representation. LDAs are a cost-effective alternative to hiring an attorney, providing guidance and expertise in navigating paperwork for various legal matters, such as divorces, child support modifications, and small claims. At Milla LDS, our LDAs are dedicated to delivering personalized attention, ensuring accuracy and efficiency while saving you time and money.

Why Choose an LDA Over an Attorney for Your Divorce?

Unlike traditional attorneys, we focus on preparing and filing your legal documents at a fraction of the cost. Choosing a Legal Document Assistant (LDA) means you get professional assistance, personalized attention, and significant savings, without compromising on quality or respect. We’re here to support you through this process with care and efficiency.

As a Client, What Are My Responsibilities?

As a client, you are ultimately responsible for managing your own case. Our role as a Registered Legal Document Assistant (LDA) is strictly limited to preparing your legal documents. Since you are representing yourself, any communication from the court will be sent directly to you. If you receive correspondence from the court and have questions, please share a copy with us, and we will assist as needed.

What is the difference between a divorce, a legal seperation, and an anulment?

Divorce: A legal process that dissolves a marriage, officially ending it. Both parties become single and are free to remarry. Divorce addresses matters like property division, child custody, and spousal support.

Legal Separation: A process where a couple remains legally married but live apart and establish legal agreements regarding finances, property, and child-related arrangements. It’s often chosen for religious, financial, or personal reasons.

Annulment: A legal declaration that a marriage was never valid to begin with. Unlike divorce, an annulment treats the marriage as if it never happened. Grounds for annulment typically include fraud, bigamy, incapacity, or coercion.
